FREUD SQUAD existed in various forms between 1990 and 1996. It began as a three-piece consisting of me (guitar/vocals/songs), Mark Hubbard (Bass) and Kevin Tipper (Drums).
By 1992 Chris Minz had been added on Keyboards and Jonny Wilkinson had replaced Kevin Tipper on Drums. The definitive Freud Squad line up was completed when Emily Alexander joined on backing vocals and violin.
The band’s most accomplished work was the 12- track 1995 album “In A Previous Life,” which was followed in 1996 by a 6-track mini album “In a Previous Band” (ironically titled, since the band had effectively ceased to exist just prior to release). In 2000 this was re-released along with various extra tracks and demo versions.
Around the same time, a retrospective compilation of the band’s early recordings from 1990 to 1994 was produced and sold online, entitled ‘Aliens’.
It’s all here, warts and all. Looking back, I think the early stuff was a bit manic, I just keep thinking, calm down mate! The later phase was much more introspective, I was single for much of the early 90s so a bit of maudlin crept in. I wish I’d improved on that thin guitar sound. Oh well.
